Jennifer Chang, DDS, MSD, is an assistant professor and program director in the Department of Periodontics at The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston (UTSD). Dr. Chang has a remarkable educational background, having completed her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree and two years of general practice residency in Taiwan. She then obtained her clinical training and Master of Science in Dentistry (MSD) degree in periodontics and implantology from Indiana University School of Dentistry.Dr. Chang is a board-certified diplomate in Periodontology and Dental Implant Surgery from the American Board of Periodontology. She maintains a part-time practice at the school’s faculty group practice and in the greater Houston area. Her clinical and research interests focus on improving treatment options for periodontal/peri-implant diseases. Dr. Chang is a dedicated and respected member of her field, serving on various local, national, and international endeavors. Dr. Chang's commitment to teaching, research, and service has earned her recognition through numerous grants and awards. Her work has been published in prestigious clinical research journals, showcasing her expertise and innovation in the field of periodontics and implant dentistry.

Popi Stylianou, DDS, MS, is originally from Nicosia, Cyprus. Upon graduating first in her class from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki School of Dentistry, in Greece, she worked in private practice as a general dentist for two years. Subsequently, Dr. Stylianou obtained her Certificate in Periodontics and Master of Science degree from the University of Minnesota. In addition, she completed a one-year implant and prosthodontic fellowship on complex implant restorations and full-mouth rehabilitation at the University of Minnesota’s Implant and Contemporary Dentistry Center. Dr. Stylianou is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.In addition to her private practice commitment, Dr. Stylianou is a Clinical Associate Professor at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, School of Dentistry in both graduate and undergraduate clinics. During the past eight years, Dr. Stylianou has been an active member in the Admissions Committee, and a Thesis Committee member and Chair for many of the Graduate Periodontics residents. Dr. Stylianou’s current research interest focuses on Osseodensification and Amnion-Chorion membrane.

1. Various extraction methods, ridge preservation techniques, socket grafting, membrane placement, and suturing techniques on porcine jaws. 

2. Principles of surgical extraction, including instrument and material selection. 

3. Simple and surgical extraction techniques using both conventional and state-of-the-art instruments, including the use of surgical handpieces and piezo surgery. 

4. Different surgical flap designs and mastery of flap reflection and flap management. 

5. Conduct a detailed analysis of material selection and gain practical experience in handling diverse bone, membrane, and suturing materials. 

6. Harvest and handle autogenous bone with ease and confidence. 

7. Videos and live demonstrations before practicing on porcine jaws to develop your skills. 

8. Understand the physiological healing process, post-operative care, and complication management.

During the course, you will learn the scientific rationales of minimally invasive surgical techniques, atraumatic simple and surgical extraction techniques, various ridge preservation methods, flap management, and more. You'll also practice the art of these techniques in a supportive and engaging environment under the guidance of experienced periodontists and with the latest state-ofthe art equipment and materials.
